This course introduces the discipline of psychology by examining the psychological foundations of how we develop, learn, socialise, our coping mechanisms and so much more. By doing this course, it will provide you with the skills and knowledge to analyse the world from a research-informed and theoretically grounded position. In particular, The course will focus on the bio-psycho-social model and will be incorporated into the various topics that will be covered.
Learning Objectives:
On completion of this course, you should be able to demonstrate an understanding of the following:
LO1. Describe the major stages of human psychological development throughout the lifespanLO2. Demonstrate an understanding of the basic concepts of psychology including theories of learning, sensation and perception, personality, motivation, and interpersonal relationshipsLO3. Apply the basic concepts of psychology to health and illnessLO4. Describe psychological models relevant to understanding well-being and ill health.This 10-week course is designed to scaffold your learning through the weekly content. As such, you will find between 4 to 5 formative assessments (learning activities) in each week that could be in the form of discussion forums, quizzes or padlets. Whilst these activities are not graded, I would highly recommend in engaging with them so that you have a better shot at your graded assessments.
