Welcome to Personal Finance. Personal Finance is for those seeking a bit more insight into some of life's common personal financial decisions, and the first course within the financial planning major offered at UniSA. On behalf of the UniSA Applied Finance team we look forward to introducing you to the study of personal financial planning.
Personal Finance is a course that aims to help you to think more carefully and holistically about your personal finances, including how your personal financial goals and strategies change as you move through different stages of your life. We believe that Personal Finance will help you to improve the decisions you make around some important elements of your personal financial life.
However, as this is an introductory course we have had to make choices about the depth and breadth of personal financial planning topics to introduce to you.
Although personal finance as an area can cover a very wide range range of decisions, we will focus on a smaller number of these decision areas in this course. Thus we will look at the personal financial planning process, the tools used in personal financial planning, income tax, personal insurance, making informed borrowing decisions, and the basics of personal investment.
One aim in introducing these specific topic areas to you is to help you become a better consumer of financial products and services.
I hope that you find your study of Personal Finance both interesting and rewarding.
