Welcome to UO Policing: Investigations and Intelligence. By the end of the course, you will have a rich knowledge of the roles of investigators and analysts investigating crimes and the structure and roles of operatives working in the Australian intelligence agencies.
The world of crime, and the methods employed to investigate crime, are constantly evolving. Emerging technologies, used by both sides of crime, will continue to have a significant impact on the role of investigation and intelligence officers.
Technology aside, people remain at the core of policing, a point not lost in this course.
This course is largely built around Michael Newbury’s text, Criminal Investigations in South Australia. The text steps sequentially through the processes and procedures of a criminal investigation. It is an engaging and practical resource for those working in criminal justice or interested in criminal investigation procedures.
We have developed a unique, video-based story of a fictitious crime to "bring to life" the learning. As the weeks unfold, the crime story is revealed, allowing you to apply what you are learning to something as close to real-life as we can make it.
