Structure
This course is organised into four modules encompassing 10 weekly topics. The materials for each week are presented as readings from the textbook, media presentations and learning tasks for you to complete.
Generally, course content contains 10–12 hours of study material, with the remaining time left for independent study and preparation of assessments. You should budget approximately 15 hours per week for time spent on this course.
This time is split between:
- course content (e.g., working through readings and viewing recorded presentations)
- completing learning tasks
- interacting with the course teaching team and peers
- working independently toward the course objectives (e.g., searching for information, working on assessments)
Approach
Each of the 10 weeks in this course contains learning materials, resources, tasks and guidance to help you complete the course.
Presentations
Each week has a number of multimedia presentations with a combination of presentation slides and an explanation from the course teaching team. There may also be a worksheet or other printed material to accompany the presentation. These presentations complement your reading of chapters in the textbook. Working through the presentations will help you complete the learning tasks and case studies each week.
Learning Tasks
Each week will contain a number of learning tasks. These tasks will focus on thinking, analysing and discussing.
The online activities will demand two things of you. First, you are expected to engage with the course content and demonstrate this engagement in the learning tasks. This may involve searching for information, learning to use new technologies, working through suggested readings or developing written work. This work may be independent or collaborative.
Second, you will be expected to engage with your fellow students. Such interaction is an important part of learning. Given the importance of technology in contemporary teaching, it is particularly important that you engage in online interaction and cultivate the skills related to presentation, facilitation and other forms of participation in this medium.
