Welcome to UO Journalism: Principles and Practices. My name is Lachlan Parker and I am the online course facilitator and your primary teaching contact for this course, alongside the online tutoring team.
In this course, students will be introduced to current practices, concepts and issues in journalism, both within Australia and internationally. Students will become familiar with key theories and skills required in journalism including news values and news judgement. They will develop competencies in, and understandings of, the fundamentals of news gathering and interviewing, and will be introduced to differences in reporting styles and technical skills across media both in Australian and global contexts. Students will also reflect on their own future career paths in journalism and identify inherent ethical and legal obligations.
Now, take some time to read through the information contained in the Course Information and Assessment sections so that you are familiar with the requirements, expectations, and assessments for this course. If any of this information is unclear then please contact the teaching team as soon as possible.
