Topic outline

  • Being well-prepared will help you succeed in your studies.  The best place to start is the Study Resources webpage which includes a wide range of online resources to develop your academic and study skills.  There are short videos and downloadable guides to help you participate effectively in your courses and complete your assessments.

    Academic Literacy Modules

Academic literacy modules have been developed to assist with learning how to research, analyse and communicate according to academic conventions. These academic skills will help you improve your assessment tasks and succeed in your degree. The modules consist of eight self-paced modules of approximately 90 minutes each focused on specific academic skills. You may choose to complete only those modules that focus on topics you feel least confident about or you might set yourself the goal of completing the suite of eight. There is no open or close time to complete these modules, and they will be available to you to revisit throughout your degree.

    Your Study Space

As an online learner, you can study just about anywhere - in front of the TV, during your kids' sports event, on the bus or even by the pool!  But, there will be times when you need to concentrate, and that's when you need to be in a space dedicated purely to your studies.

    • Think about where and how you best concentrate to help you decide on where you could set up your space
    • Some students study best when they have a private space away from other people, while others find that a place with some background noise can help them focus, such as in a cafe or a local library
    • How you set up your study space is also important - think about your desk position, the amount of light coming in and room temperature
    • You may also need some tools and equipment like a whiteboard and a calendar with colour coded notes to keep you on task
    • Listen to staff and students share their tips on setting up a functional and effective study space.
